What is cylindrical worm drive?
The tooth surface of ordinary cylindrical worm (except ZK worm) is usually made by turning the lathe with a straight blade. According to the different installation position of the turning tool, the profile curves of the worm tooth surface machined in different sections are also different. According to different tooth profile curves, ordinary cylindrical worm can be divided into Archimedes worm (ZA worm), involute worm (ZI worm), normal straight profile worm (ZN worm) and conical enveloped cylindrical worm (ZK worm). GB10085-88 recommends two kinds of ZI worm and ZK worm. In this paper, the tooth profiles of the worm and the matched worm gears used in the four common cylindrical worm gears are introduced respectively.
